Tarmac - Cleaning and maintenance.

Tarmac driveway can look really great when it's new, unfortunately without regular maintenance it can start to wear fairly quick and colour will fade. Tarmac restorer should be applied regularly once every few years to top up the tarmac bonding coat, prevent wear and preserve it's new-like appearance.

Cleaning - Tarmac can be cleaned either with use of power brush alike westermann or with low pressure wash. Moss growth on tarmac can seriously damage the surface and it should be regularly removed or controlled with chemicals which are safe to use on tarmac. Power brush cleaning can remove moss and other dirt from the surface with minimum risk of causing any surface loss. Cleaning with pressure washer can often leave strikes, this however becomes invisible if restoration sealant is used afterwards. When pressure washing you should only use flat surface cleaner or wide spray pattern flat nozzle. Never use turbo nozzle on tarmac. When cleaning with pressure washer adjust the pressure only high enough to gently remove any moss, often you'll have to pass over same area multiple times until moss detaches, if too high pressure is used this will lead to surface damage and strikes will be visible.

Softwash - no hypochlorite treatment is possible on tarmac, this would immediately discolour tarmac. To enhance cleaning and make organic growth easier to remove you can use biocide based treatment a few days/weeks prior to pressure washing.

When using chemicals always refer to health and safety instructions and use appropriate protective equipment.

Sealing / Restoration - This step is important for tarmac surfaces and should be completed regularly every few years. Restorer acts as a bonding coat to prevent loss of tarmac as well as restores the black (or red/green) new like appearance. We work on SmartSeal sealants (link below).

Sealing / restoration prep and process - Make sure that the surface is well cleaned.

Surface has to be really dry (allow minimum 1 day for the moisture to evaporate after cleaning, ensure no rain is forecasted for minimum 6-8 hours after completion).

Restorer can be applied by roller or squeegee, we however prefer roller application for better control over the amount of product used and and not to overfill the surface with the product. We recommend two coats application with a roller (or more for old and worn surfaces, should be individually assessed).

Repairs - Holes and cracks can be repaired /filled with cold lay tarmac & restorer.
